A Packer is essential tool to run drill stem testing for cased hole to isolate and seal the downhole formation. It is normally operated by mechanical lifting and rotating to setting and unsetting. The retrievable packer is also called RTTS Packer in Halliburton type.
The retrievable packer is designed with a full opening, which is hookwall type packer for use in testing, treating, and squeeze cementing operations. The full opening permits pumping large volumes of fluid with a minimum pressure drop, and allows the passage of a through tubing type perforating gun. This helps make the tool usable for multiple operations with one trip in the hole-such as perforate, test, treat, squeeze, perforate, etc. This type of packer always need to work with a bypass(circulating valve) i.e RTTS circulating Valve, but in offshore Drill stem testing, left rotation is not permitted then a hydraulic circulating valve is recommended which does not need to rotated for unsetting the packer.
