S45C steel is a fully static steel made by electric furnace, open hearth or pure oxygen converter steelmaking method. The steel has uniform metallographic structure and no structural defects. The carbon content of the steel is more than 0.4%, and the wear resistance is excellent, but the ductility is reduced, and it is easy to deform and crack after quenching. Therefore, heat treatment is extremely important, and quenching must be carried out after tempering to avoid tempering brittleness. The cutting property of this kind of carbon steel can be improved by spheroidizing the steel. It is a medium carbon high-quality steel with high strength. Due to poor hardenability, it is generally used in the normalized state. When the mechanical property requirements are high, it is quenched and tempered. The cold deformation plasticity is medium, and the machinability of annealing and normalizing is better than that of quenching and tempering. It is used to manufacture parts with high strength requirements, such as gears, shafts, piston pins, etc., and machined parts, forgings, stamping parts, bolts, nuts and pipe joints with low stress.
