A VRLA (Valve Regulated Lead Acid) gel battery is a type of rechargeable battery commonly used in various applications, including uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems, renewable energy systems, electric vehicles, and telecommunications equipment.
VRLA gel batteries are a variant of the VRLA battery family, which also includes VRLA AGM (Absorbent Glass Mat) batteries. The key difference between the two is the electrolyte used. In VRLA gel batteries, the electrolyte is composed of a silica gel that immobilizes the electrolyte, creating a gel-like consistency.
It's worth noting that while VRLA gel batteries offer several advantages, they also have some limitations. They are generally more expensive than traditional flooded lead-acid batteries, and their energy density and power density may be slightly lower. Additionally, they require careful charging and discharging to avoid damage.
