Heat-resistant steel
Austenitic steels such as 1.4841 have only 30% of the thermal conductivity of unalloyed steels. Their melting point is lower than that of unalloyed steels, so austenitic steels must be welded with lower heat input than unalloyed steels. In order to avoid overheating or burn-through with thinner sheets, high welding speeds must be used. Grade 1.4841 is suitable for components that need to be scale resistant up to about 1150 °C.
1.4841 is a heat resistant steel which has its origins in 1.4828, but which is much more stable at high temperatures due to its higher chromium and nickel content to oxidation. This steel is characterized by its good mechanical properties at high temperatures and is therefore particularly suitable where great value is placed on good mechanical properties at high temperatures.
