Stainless steel alloys are very common as they are used across all industries. From being made into fasteners to their use in machinery, the Stainless Steel Flat Bar can connect the dots to several requirements. The most popular alloys under the stainless steel category belong to the 300 series. Austenitic in terms of their classification, the 300 series Stainless Steel Flat Trim Strips have a face-centered cubic crystalline microstructure. This microstrure indicates that the atoms present in the Stainless Steel Flat Strip are packed in a very close knit fashion. Hence, the closely packed atomic arrangement affects the ductility, which in the case of 300 series alloys tends to be higher. The most popular and economical grade that is found in multiple projects is grade 304 Stainless Steel Flat Bar. The alloy has moderate strength and good resistance to some types of corrosion. On the heels of grade 304 is alloy 316, which is also an austenitic grade. Yet the difference between them both is the addition of molybdenum in the alloy of 316 Stainless Steel Flat Bar. This molybdenum grade has tensile properties that are more enhanced than the former. While the properties of grade 304 are good enough, and the price is very economical, it is very difficult to machine this stainless steel. As a means to improve the machinability of this alloy, 303 Stainless Steel Flat Bar or as referred to as machine free grade was introduced into the market. Along with having lower corrosion resistance properties, the toughness of grade 303 Stainless Steel Flat Stock is lower than 304.
