Hastelloy C-276 (UNS N10276, W.Nr. 2.4819) is renowned for exceptional corrosion resistance in aggressive media. The high molybdenum content (15.0-17.0%) provides superior resistance to localized corrosion including pitting, while low carbon content minimizes carbide precipitation during welding to maintain intergranular attack resistance in heat-affected zones.
This nickel alloy offers excellent resistance to:
- Strong oxidizers (ferric and cupric chlorides)
- Hot contaminated media (organic and inorganic)
- Chlorine, formic and acetic acids, acetic anhydride
- Seawater and brine solutions
- Sulfur compounds and chloride ions in flue gas desulfurization
- Wet chlorine gas, hypochlorite, and chlorine dioxide
Primary applications include chemical processing components (heat exchangers, reaction vessels, evaporators, transfer piping), air pollution control systems (stack liners, ducts, dampers, scrubbers), pulp and paper production, industrial waste treatment, and sour natural gas recovery.
Hastelloy C-276 is designated as UNS N10276 and Werkstoff Nr. 2.4819, and listed in NACE MR0175 for oil and gas service.
