436L Stainless Steel Composition
Stainless Steel Grade 436L is a ferritic grade of stainless steel with chemical elements that include iron, chromium, molybdenum, silicon, manganese, and carbon. This combination of elements makes it highly resistant to corrosion from chloride solutions and other substances. It also has good weldability, formability, and machinability.

436L Stainless Steel Physical Properties
436L ss has excellent ductility and toughness thanks to its low carbon content (less than 0.03%). It also boasts high strength (up to 1400 MPa) and good weldability and formability. Additionally, it has a relatively low coefficient of thermal expansion (11 μm/m/K).
436L Stainless Steel Mechanical Properties
Stainless steel 436L offers outstanding tensile strength (up to 760 MPa) and good fatigue resistance. Its hardness ranges from 200 HBW to 300 HBW, depending on the tempering temperature. It also features excellent corrosion resistance in oxidizing and reducing environments due to its high chromium content (>18%) and good oxidation resistance up to 870°C in air. This grade of stainless steel also exhibits excellent resistance to pitting corrosion in seawater applications due to its increased nickel content (>1%).
