About 321 Stainless Steel
Alloy 321 (UNS S32100) is a titanium-stabilized stainless steel that provides excellent resistance to intergranular corrosion after exposure to temperatures between 800-1500°F (427-816°C). This stabilization against chromium carbide formation makes it ideal for high-temperature applications.
321 stainless steel offers superior creep and stress rupture properties compared to Alloy 304 and 304L, along with excellent oxidation resistance up to 1500°F (816°C) and good low-temperature toughness. The 321H variant (UNS S32109) features higher carbon content (0.04-0.10) for enhanced creep resistance and strength above 1000°F (537°C).
This alloy cannot be hardened by heat treatment but can be strengthened through cold working. It maintains excellent weldability and can be processed using standard fabrication practices.
