Material Overview
17CrNiMo6/1.6587 steel is a heat-treatable, low alloy steel containing nickel, chromium, and molybdenum according to DIN German standards. Known for its exceptional toughness and ability to develop high strength in heat-treated conditions while maintaining excellent fatigue strength. Widely used in heavy-duty applications including shafts, gears, axles, spindles, couplings, and pins.

Heat Treatment Processes
Normalizing
- Temperature range: 840-890°C
- Hold temperature for several hours
- Air cooling
Annealing
- Temperature range: 630-650°C
- Slow furnace cooling

Hardening and Tempering (QT)
- Hardening temperature: 830-865°C
- Oil quenching after temperature hold
- Immediate tempering at ambient temperature
- Typical tempering temperature: 600°C
- Air cooling after tempering
