C24000 brass, also known as Low Leaded Brass, contains 80% copper (Cu) and 20% zinc (Zn). The lead content in this alloy enhances machinability, formability, and corrosion resistance. Note that lead is a toxic substance requiring proper safety measures during handling and processing.
| Element | Content (%) |
|---|---|
| Cu | 80 |
| Zn | 20 |
C24000 brass features a density of 8.66 g/cm³ and melting points ranging from 966°C to 999°C. This reddish-gold alloy exhibits non-magnetic characteristics with excellent electrical and thermal conductivity, making it ideal for electrical contacts and heat exchangers.

C24000 brass serves multiple industries including architectural hardware, valve stems, decorative accessories, plumbing fixtures, musical instruments, and ammunition cartridges. The lead content makes it suitable for low-pressure plumbing applications by reducing dezincification risk, while its corrosion resistance benefits marine applications.
C24000 brass has a Brinell hardness of 82 HB. While relatively low compared to other brass alloys, it can be work-hardened through cold deformation to enhance mechanical strength and spring properties.
C24000 brass is not heat-treatable, meaning mechanical properties cannot be significantly altered through heating or cooling. Welding options include brazing, soldering, or gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), with method selection depending on application requirements and joint types.
C24000 brass demonstrates good corrosion resistance in most environments including freshwater, seawater, and atmospheric conditions. However, susceptibility to dezincification may occur in high-pH or low-oxygen environments if lead content is reduced, making proper alloy selection and maintenance essential for product longevity.
