What is an inductor

Application of inductors

Inductors are widely used in analog circuits and signal processing. Applications range from the use of large inductors in power supplies, which along with filter capacitors remove multiples of the mains frequency of the DC output (or the switching frequency of a switch-mode power supply), to small inductors of ferrite beads or toris installed around the cable to prevent radio frequency interference in transmission along the wire.
