What is an inductor

An inductor is characterized by its inductance, which is the ratio of voltage to the rate of change of current.

The inductor consists of a coil of conducting material- insulated copper  wrapped around a core of a ferrimagnetic  material which is called an "iron core" inductor.

Application of inductors

Inductors are widely used in analog circuits and signal processing. Applications range from the use of large inductors in power supplies to small inductors of ferrite beads or toris installed around the cable to prevent radio frequency interference in transmission along the wire. 

Inductors are usually used in tuning circuits, induction motors,or used as sensors, filters,chokes,ferrite beads,or used as relays.
