Electrolysis of hypochlorite salts can produce sodium hypochlorite, a potent disinfectant. It's clear, soluble in water, and solves the solubility challenges faced by gas disinfectants like chlorine gas, chlorine dioxide, and ozone, eliminating the safety risks often associated with these chemicals. It doesn’t produce harmful health and environmental by-products and avoids the precipitates from bleach use. Sodium hypochlorite is widely used in various water treatments, including tap water, reclaimed water, industrial circulating water, swimming pools, and hospital wastewater.
