AISI ASTM Stainless Steel Sheet Metal 153MA Hot and Cold Rolled

Stainless steel 153 MA has excellent mechanical properties at both elevated and very low temperatures. The presence of cerium, nitrogen and silicon contents in its composition provides the alloy good oxide stability, resistance to sigma phase precipitation and strength at high temperature. The austenitic structure offers excellent toughness even at cryogenic temperatures as well. The optimal performance of stainless steel 153 MA can be achieved at 600 to 950°C (1112 to 1742°F).

Stainless steel 153 MA can be welded using techniques like submerged arc welding, plasma arc welding, flux-cored arc welding and shielded metal arc welding. It is essential to have pure Ar with 2-3 % hydrogen additions as the base of the shielding and welding gases to obtain optimal penetration and corrosion resistance. The alloy is then hot formed at temperatures ranging from 900 to 1150°C (1652 to 2102°F) followed by rapid cooling. The alloy also has excellent cold forming properties. Finally, the alloy is heat treated at 1020 to 1100°C (1868 to 2012°F).
