Carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) is a non-toxic, odorless white flocculent powder with stable performance that is easily soluble in water. Its aqueous solution forms a neutral or alkaline transparent viscous liquid, soluble in other water-soluble glues and resins, but insoluble in organic solvents such as ethanol.
Functional Uses
CMC serves multiple functions including binder, thickener, suspending agent, emulsifier, dispersant, stabilizer, and sizing agent. As the most widely used cellulose derivative with the largest production volume, CMC is commonly referred to as the "industrial monosodium glutamate" due to its versatile applications.
