Monel K500 Alloy Overview
Monel K500 is a precipitation-hardenable nickel-copper alloy that combines the excellent corrosion resistance of Monel 400 with enhanced strength and hardness. These improved properties are achieved through the addition of aluminum and titanium, followed by thermal processing for age hardening.
Technical Properties
- Three times the yield strength and double the tensile strength compared to Monel 400
- Strength maintained up to 1200°F (649°C)
- Ductile and tough down to 400°F (204°C)
- Melting range: 2400-2460°F (1316-1349°C)
- Spark resistant and non-magnetic to -200°F (-129°C)
- Can be further strengthened by cold working prior to precipitation hardening
Corrosion Resistance
- Excellent resistance in marine and chemical environments
- Superior performance in high-velocity sea water applications
- Resistant to sour-gas environments
- Low corrosion rates make it ideal for centrifugal pump shafts in marine service
