309S stainless steel rod bar is 309 stainless steel with lower carbon content. 309S stainless steel rod bars are used where welding is required. The lower carbon content of 309S stainless steel rod bars minimizes the precipitation of carbides in the heat-affected zone close to the weld, and the precipitation of carbides may cause intergranular corrosion (welding corrosion) of stainless steel in certain environments.
309S stainless steel rod bars can withstand repeated heating below 980°C and have high high-temperature strength, oxidation resistance, and carburization resistance
