Can you weld 304 stainless to 321 stainless?
We recommend 308 rods for welding 304 to 304 as well as 304 to 321. We recommend a 347 rod when welding 321 to 321 and when welding mild steel to 304, a special 309 rod for dissimilar metals is recommended. We have found that 347 rods can be used for most 300-series stainless steel welding applications.

Is 321 stainless steel weldable?
Slightly tougher than 304 stainless, this material will produce the same tough stringy chips. The usage of slow speeds and constant positive feeds will minimize this alloy's tendency to work harden. 321 can be welded by all commonly used fusion and resistance methods.
