The pressure reducing valve is a valve that reduces the inlet pressure to a certain required outlet pressure by adjusting it, and relies on the energy of the medium itself to keep the outlet pressure stable automatically. From the fluid mechanics point of view, the pressure reducing valve is a local resistance can change the throttling element, that is, by changing the throttling area, the flow rate and the kinetic energy of the fluid change, resulting in different pressure losses, so as to achieve the purpose of decompression. Then rely on the adjustment of the control and adjustment system, so that the fluctuation of the pressure after the valve is balanced with the spring force, so that the pressure after the valve is kept constant within a certain error range.

The simplest pressure reducing valve, the direct acting pressure reducing valve, with a flat diaphragm or bellows. Because it is self-contained, there is no need to install external sensing lines downstream. It is the smallest and most economical of the three pressure reducing valves, designed for medium and low flow rates. The accuracy of direct acting pressure reducing valves is usually +/-10% of the downstream set point.
Piston pressure reducing valve This type of pressure reducing valve combines two types of valves - pilot valve and main valve - in one. The design of the pilot valve is similar to that of the direct acting pressure reducing valve. The exhaust pressure from the pilot valve acts on the piston, causing it to open the main valve. If the main valve is large and cannot be opened directly, this design will use the inlet pressure to open the main valve. As a result, this type of pressure reducing valve offers higher capacity and accuracy (+/-5%) at the same pipe size compared to direct-acting pressure reducing valves. The same as the direct-acting pressure reducing valve, the pressure reducing valve is internally sensed without the need for external installation of the sensor line.
