Polysorbate 85, also known as Polyoxyethylene (20) Sorbitan Trioleate, consists of sorbitol, ethylene oxide, and oleic acid. It has a molecular formula of C60H108O8(C2H40)20. At room temperature, it is in the form of a pale - yellow to orange oily liquid. It is an O/W emulsifier with an HLB value of 11.0. It is soluble in ethanol, ethyl acetate, and in most mineral and vegetable oil.
