The Composition of the Half Shaft

The half shaft is usually composed of the following main parts:
Axle shaft: The main body of the half shaft, usually a solid metal rod, is responsible for transmitting torque. Hollow axle shafts are also commonly used in modern cars to reduce weight.
Universal joint (CV Joint): This is one of the most important components on the half shaft, usually consisting of two universal joints, an inner one and an outer one.
Inner universal joint: Connects the differential and allows the half shaft to extend and contract and change angles as the suspension moves up and down during vehicle operation.
Outer universal joint: Connects the wheel, allowing the wheel to change angles during steering and adapting to the up and down movement of the suspension.
Dust cover: It is placed over the universal joint to prevent dust and moisture from entering the interior of the universal joint and to keep the grease from leaking out.
The splines: The two ends of the half shaft are connected to the differential and the hub through splines to ensure the effective transmission of power.
