The engine balance shaft is a shaft equipped with an eccentric weight and rotates synchronously with the crankshaft. Its main purpose is to reduce the vibration generated when the engine is running. During the operation of the engine, the reciprocating motion of the piston and the rotational motion of the connecting rod big end will generate inertial forces. These inertial forces will cause engine vibration. The balance shaft offsets some of the inertial forces through the centrifugal force generated by its own rotation. For example, in a four-stroke inline four-cylinder engine, the up and down motion of the piston is not completely balanced, and the second-order inertial force will cause obvious vibration. The balance shaft can generate a force equal to and opposite to the second-order inertial force, thereby effectively reducing the vibration and noise of the engine.
