When the engine is activated (via stop/start button or traditional key), an electrical signal is sent to the starter solenoid. This component directs power from the vehicle's battery to the starter motor, activating both the motor and the starter drive (Bendix gear system).
The starter motor engages the vehicle's flywheel, cranking the engine to initiate the combustion process in petrol and diesel vehicles. Once the engine is running, the mechanism disengages the starter motor from the gear and flywheel as external electrical assistance is no longer required.
