Manual starters are devices operated manually, designed for simple operation without requiring expert intervention. These starters feature a button or rotary knob that controls the connected equipment, using mechanical linkages to open or close contacts for motor operation.
Note: Manual starters do not break control circuits during power loss, which means connected motors may restart automatically when power returns. This requires careful consideration for safety-critical applications.
- Safe and economical operation
- Compact design suitable for diverse applications
- Built-in overload protection for motor safety
- Available with various enclosure options
- Low initial cost compared to other starter types
When the engine is activated (via stop/start button or ignition key), an electrical signal is sent to the starter solenoid. This component transfers power from the vehicle's battery to the starter motor.
The electrical current activates both the starter motor and the Bendix gear system, which engages the vehicle's flywheel. As the starter motor turns, it cranks the engine to initiate combustion in petrol and diesel vehicles.
Once the engine is running independently, the mechanism disengages the starter motor from the flywheel, as the engine no longer requires the electrical spark to maintain operation.
