Manual starters are simple, manually-operated devices that control equipment operation without requiring expert intervention. These starters feature a button or rotary knob that mechanically opens or closes contacts to start or stop the motor.

Important Note: Manual starters do not break the control circuit during power loss, which means connected motors may restart automatically when power returns. This requires safety consideration in certain applications.

When the engine is activated (via stop/start button or ignition key), an electrical signal is sent to the starter solenoid. This component transfers power from the battery to the starter motor, which then engages the engine's flywheel through a gear system (starter drive or Bendix).

The starter motor cranks the engine to initiate combustion. Once the engine is running, the mechanism disengages the starter motor from the flywheel as external electrical assistance is no longer required.
