Manual starters are devices operated manually, designed for simple operation without requiring expert intervention. These starters feature a button or rotary knob that controls the connected equipment through mechanical linkages that open or close contacts to start/stop the motor.

Important Note: Manual starters do not break control circuits during power loss, which means motors may restart automatically when power is restored - a critical safety consideration for some applications.

When the engine is activated (via stop/start button or traditional key), an electrical signal is sent to the starter solenoid. This component transfers power from the vehicle's battery to the starter motor, activating both the motor and the starter drive (Bendix gear system).

The starter motor turns the engine's flywheel, initiating combustion in petrol and diesel engines. Once the engine is running, the mechanism disengages the starter motor from the flywheel as the engine no longer requires the electrical spark.
