Manual starters are simple devices operated manually without requiring expert intervention. They feature a button or rotary knob that enables users to turn connected equipment on or off through mechanical linkages that open or close contacts.

Important Note: Manual starters don't break control circuits during power loss, which means motors could restart automatically when power returns - a critical safety consideration for some applications.

When the engine is activated (via stop/start button or key), an electrical signal is sent to the starter solenoid, which transfers charge from the battery to the starter motor. This current activates both the motor and the starter drive (Bendix gear system), engaging the vehicle's flywheel.

As the starter motor turns, it cranks the engine to initiate combustion. Once the engine runs independently, the mechanism disengages the starter motor from the gear and flywheel.
