When the engine is activated (via stop/start button or traditional key), an electrical signal is sent to the starter solenoid. This component transfers power from the vehicle's battery to the starter motor, which engages the starter drive (Bendix gear system) and subsequently the vehicle's flywheel.
The starter motor cranks the engine to initiate the combustion process in petrol and diesel vehicles. Once the engine is running independently, the starter motor disengages from the gear and flywheel system.
