Manual starters are simple, user-operated devices featuring a button or rotary knob that controls connected equipment. Note that manual starters don't break the control circuit during power loss, which may cause automatic restart when power returns.

When activated (via button or key), an electrical signal is sent to the starter solenoid, which transfers power from the battery to the starter motor. This activates the starter drive mechanism (Bendix gear), engaging the engine's flywheel to crank the engine and initiate combustion. Once the engine is running, the starter motor disengages automatically.
