When the engine is activated (via stop/start button or traditional key), an electrical signal is sent to the starter solenoid. This component transfers the charge from the vehicle's battery to the starter motor, which activates the starter drive (Bendix gear system) and engages the vehicle's flywheel.
The starter motor cranks the engine to initiate the combustion process. Once the engine is running, the mechanism disconnects the starter motor from the gear and flywheel as the engine no longer requires the electrical spark.
