Manual starters are devices operated manually to control connected equipment. These starters feature simple operation with a button or rotary knob that opens or closes contacts to start or stop the motor. Note that manual starters don't break the control circuit during power loss, which may cause automatic restart when power returns.

When the engine is activated, an electrical signal is sent to the starter solenoid, which transfers power from the battery to the starter motor. This activates the starter drive (Bendix gear system) to engage the flywheel, cranking the engine to initiate combustion. Once the engine is running, the starter disengages automatically.
