This component transfers power from the battery to the starter motor, which engages the vehicle's flywheel through a gear system (starter drive or Bendix). The starter motor cranks the engine to initiate combustion in petrol and diesel vehicles. Once the engine is running, the mechanism disengages the starter motor from the gear and flywheel.
