Manual starters are devices operated manually, designed for simple and straightforward operation without requiring expert intervention. These starters feature a button or rotary knob that enables users to turn connected equipment on or off through mechanical linkages that open or close contacts.

When the engine is activated (via stop/start button or traditional key), an electrical signal is sent to the starter solenoid. This component transmits the charge from the vehicle's battery to the starter motor, activating it along with the starter drive (Bendix gear system). The starter motor then engages the vehicle's flywheel, cranking the engine to initiate the combustion process.

Once the engine is running properly, the mechanism disengages the starter motor from the gear and flywheel as the engine no longer requires the electrical spark to maintain operation.
