When the engine is activated (via button or key), an electrical signal is sent to the starter solenoid. This component directs power from the battery to the starter motor, which engages the starter drive (Bendix gear system) with the vehicle's flywheel.
The starter motor turns the engine to initiate combustion in petrol and diesel engines. Once the engine is running independently, the starter mechanism disengages from the flywheel as the engine no longer requires electrical assistance.
