Manual starters are devices operated manually to control connected equipment. These starters feature simple operation with a button or rotary knob that mechanically opens or closes contacts to start or stop motors. Note that manual starters don't break control circuits during power loss, potentially allowing automatic restart when power returns.

When the engine is activated (via start button or key), an electrical signal is sent to the starter solenoid. This component transfers power from the battery to the starter motor, which engages the flywheel through a gear system (starter drive/Bendix). The motor cranks the engine to initiate combustion.

Once the engine runs independently, the starter disengages from the flywheel as the electrical spark is no longer required for operation.
