When the engine is activated (via stop/start button or traditional key), an electrical signal is sent to the starter solenoid. This component directs power from the vehicle's battery to the starter motor, which activates the starter drive (Bendix gear system). The engaged starter motor turns the engine's flywheel, initiating the combustion process in both petrol and diesel engines.

Once the engine is running independently, the starter motor disengages from the flywheel as the engine no longer requires the initial electrical spark to maintain operation.
