Manual starters are simple, user-operated devices that control equipment activation. When the engine is activated (via stop/start button or traditional key), an electrical signal is sent to the starter solenoid. This component directs power from the battery to the starter motor, which engages the starter drive (Bendix gear system) with the vehicle's flywheel.

As the starter motor turns, it cranks the engine to initiate combustion in petrol and diesel vehicles. Once the engine is running independently, the mechanism disengages the starter motor from the flywheel, as the engine no longer requires the electrical spark to maintain operation.
