When the engine is activated (via stop/start button or key ignition), an electrical signal is sent to the starter solenoid. This component transfers power from the vehicle's battery to the starter motor, engaging the starter drive mechanism (Bendix) which connects with the flywheel.
The starter motor cranks the engine to initiate combustion in petrol and diesel vehicles. Once the engine is running, the starter motor automatically disengages from the flywheel as the engine no longer requires external power.
