Manual starters are devices operated manually, featuring simple operation without requiring expert intervention. These starters include a button or rotary knob that enables users to turn connected equipment on or off through mechanical linkages that open or close contacts.

Important Note: Manual starters do not break control circuits during power loss, which means motors could restart automatically when power returns. This requires safety consideration in certain applications.

When the engine is activated (via stop/start button or traditional key), an electrical signal is sent to the starter solenoid. This component transfers charge from the battery to the starter motor, activating it along with the starter drive (Bendix gear system). The motor then engages the vehicle's flywheel, cranking the engine to initiate combustion in petrol and diesel vehicles.

Once the engine runs independently, the mechanism disengages the starter motor from the gear and flywheel as the electrical spark is no longer needed.
