When the engine is activated (via stop/start button or traditional key), an electrical signal is sent to the starter solenoid. This component transmits power from the vehicle's battery to the starter motor, activating both the motor and the starter drive (Bendix gear system).

The engaged starter motor turns the vehicle's flywheel, initiating the combustion process in petrol and diesel engines. Once the engine is running, the mechanism disengages the starter motor from the gear and flywheel as external electrical activation is no longer required.
