When the engine is activated (via stop/start button or traditional key), an electrical signal is sent to the starter solenoid. This component transfers power from the battery to the starter motor, which then engages the vehicle's flywheel through a gear system (starter drive or Bendix).
The starter motor cranks the engine to initiate combustion in petrol and diesel vehicles. Once the engine is running independently, the mechanism disengages the starter motor from the flywheel as external electrical assistance is no longer required.
