Manual starters are devices operated manually, designed for straightforward operation without requiring expert intervention. These starters feature a button or rotary knob that enables users to turn connected equipment on or off through mechanical linkages that open or close contacts.

Important Note: Manual starters do not break control circuits during power loss, meaning motors could restart automatically when voltage is restored - a critical safety consideration for some applications.

When the engine is activated (via stop/start button or traditional key), an electrical signal is sent to the starter solenoid. This component transfers charge from the vehicle's battery to the starter motor, activating it along with the starter drive (Bendix gear system).

The starter motor turns and cranks the engine via the flywheel, initiating the combustion process in petrol and diesel vehicles. Once the engine is running, the mechanism disengages the starter motor from the flywheel as the engine no longer requires the electrical spark.
