Manual starters are devices operated manually, offering straightforward operation without requiring expert intervention. These starters feature a button or rotary knob that enables users to turn connected equipment on or off through mechanical linkages that open or close contacts.

Important Note: Manual starters do not break control circuits during power loss, meaning motors could restart automatically when voltage is restored. This may present safety considerations in certain applications.

When the engine is activated (via stop/start button or traditional key), an electrical signal is sent to the starter solenoid. This component directs power from the vehicle's battery to the starter motor.

The electrical current activates both the starter motor and the starter drive (Bendix gear system), which then engages the vehicle's flywheel. As the starter motor turns, it cranks the engine to initiate the combustion process in petrol and diesel vehicles.

Once the engine is running properly, the mechanism disengages the starter motor from the gear and flywheel as the engine no longer requires the electrical spark to maintain operation.
