Manual starters are simple, user-friendly devices operated manually without requiring expert intervention. They feature a button or rotary knob that mechanically opens or closes contacts to start or stop the motor.

When the engine is activated (via stop/start button or ignition key), an electrical signal is sent to the starter solenoid. This component transfers power from the battery to the starter motor, which engages the starter drive (Bendix gear) with the vehicle's flywheel.

The starter motor cranks the engine to initiate combustion in petrol and diesel engines. Once the engine is running, the mechanism disengages the starter motor from the flywheel as the engine no longer requires the electrical spark to maintain operation.
