When the engine is activated (via stop/start button or traditional key), an electrical signal is sent to the starter solenoid. This component transfers power from the battery to the starter motor.
The electrical current activates the starter motor and engages the starter drive (Bendix gear), which connects with the vehicle's flywheel. As the starter motor turns, it cranks the engine to initiate the combustion process.
Once the engine is running, the mechanism disengages the starter motor from the flywheel as the engine no longer requires the electrical spark to maintain operation.
