Manual starters are simple, user-operated devices for controlling equipment. When the engine is activated (via stop/start button or traditional key), an electrical signal is sent to the starter solenoid. This component transfers power from the vehicle's battery to the starter motor, which then engages the starter drive (Bendix gear system) with the vehicle's flywheel.

As the starter motor turns, it cranks the engine to initiate the combustion process in both petrol and diesel vehicles. Once the engine is running independently, the mechanism disengages the starter motor from the flywheel, as the engine no longer requires the electrical spark to maintain operation.
