When the engine is activated (via stop/start button or traditional key), an electrical signal is sent to the starter solenoid. This component transfers power from the vehicle's battery to the starter motor, which activates the starter drive (Bendix gear system) to engage the flywheel.
The starter motor cranks the engine to initiate the combustion process in petrol and diesel vehicles. Once the engine is running, the mechanism disengages the starter motor from the flywheel as the engine no longer requires the electrical spark to maintain operation.
