Manual starters are devices operated manually, designed for simple operation without requiring expert intervention. These starters feature a button or rotary knob that controls the connected equipment through mechanical linkages that open or close contacts to start or stop the motor.

Note: Manual starters don't break control circuits during power loss, which may cause automatic motor restart when power returns - an important safety consideration for some applications.

When the engine is activated (via stop/start button or traditional key), an electrical signal is sent to the starter solenoid. This component transfers charge from the vehicle's battery to the starter motor.

The electrical current activates the starter motor and engages the starter drive (Bendix gear system) with the vehicle's flywheel. As the starter motor turns, it cranks the engine to initiate combustion in petrol and diesel vehicles.

Once the engine is running, the mechanism disconnects the starter motor from the gear and flywheel as the engine no longer requires the electrical spark to maintain operation.
