When activated (via button or key), an electrical signal is sent to the starter solenoid, which transfers power from the battery to the starter motor. This engages the starter drive (Bendix gear) with the engine's flywheel, cranking the engine to initiate combustion. Once running, the mechanism disengages the starter from the flywheel as the engine becomes self-sustaining.
