When the engine is activated (via start button or ignition key), an electrical signal is sent to the starter solenoid. This component transfers power from the vehicle's battery to the starter motor.

The electrical current activates both the starter motor and the starter drive (Bendix gear system), which engages with the vehicle's flywheel. As the starter motor rotates, it cranks the engine to initiate the combustion process in petrol and diesel engines.

Once the engine is running independently, the starter motor disengages automatically as the engine no longer requires the initial electrical spark to maintain operation.
